Coyotes 101

Coyotes 101 is a coyote-preparedness auditorium presentation for schools.  Topics of discussion include coyote identification, behaviour, survival requirements, and attractants found in cities and backyards.  Most importantly, students are taught appropriate and inappropriate behaviour around coyotes.  Activities include a slide show, a coyote pelt and skull demonstration, an encounter skit, and a coyote invitation skit.

Slide Show

A short series of slides emphasizing identifying features, coyote natural history, and urban coyote attractants.

Coyote Pelt and Skull Demonstration

Look at a real coyote pelt to reinforce the identifying features.  Examine a wolf, coyote and fox skull in order to articulate a common mental image of coyote size.

Encounter Skit

Practice appropriate encounter behaviour with audience volunteers.

Coyote Invitation Skit

Demonstrate what attracts coyotes to backyards and parks with audience volunteers.
