Research

One of the many amphibians to be found in Stanley Park

The Stanley Park Ecology Society strives to learn more about the wildlife and habitats that comprise Stanley Park to inform management as well as to to provide current information for our education programs.

Despite Stanley Park's prominence in the community and 120 years of protected status, surprisingly little research has been conducted in the Park.  This provides an excellent opportunity for academic institutions and professionals to partner with SPES and the Park Board to contribute meaningful and much need research.  SPES is compiling inventory information on the Park's habitats and wildlife with the help of the community in the aim of creating a State of the Park report.  This report will not only describe the current state of the park in ecological terms but will serve to identify gaps in knowledge so that we can plan effective research projects for the future.

Getting to the 'root' of the problem!

SPES staff and volunteers are working on several projects and we also encourage students and faculty at local colleges and universities to conduct research projects in the Park.

Partnerships with departments at the University of B.C., Simon Fraser University, B.C. Institute of Technology, Douglas College, Capilano College, Langara College, and Vancouver Community College have already produced valuable information about the Park.
