Volunteers who are members of Face Book can now join the SPES group site. Our group has the catchy name ‘ it’s not a pine cone it’s a hemlock cone.’ Join us to see the latest news, postings etc.
During the autumn of 2007 and the first part of the winter in 2008, SPES’s stewardship programs have enjoyed a high degree of success thanks to the work of our enthusiastic, highly skilled group of volunteers. Interest in the Ivy Busters Program grew throughout 2007, and we now offer two public ivy removal events per month: every second Saturday and every fourth Sunday of the month (except Easter Sunday).
In order to support our growing base of Ivy Busters volunteers and focus the program further on conservation and stewardship, we have Ivy Team Leader positions for committed volunteers interested in taking on a bigger role in our invasives programs. Additionally, stewardship volunteers have been making important contributions by helping SPES to map invasive plant species in the restoration areas.
Our stewardship volunteer opportunities are on-going, and we would encourage you to come out and join us! All of these opportunities give you the chance to gain skills in forest ecology and to make invaluable on-the-ground contributions to the restoration efforts in Stanley Park.
For times on ivy removals and for further information on stewardship opportunities, please contact Jillayne Peers: 604-718-6522; stewardship@stanleyparkecology.ca
The latest Volunteer Bulletin (24 January, 2008) is now available in pdf format for download.
