Co-Existing with Coyotes Coordinator
SPES is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to manage the Co-existing with Coyotes program and to work with the Conservation Programs Manager to further the mission of the society.
Duties Include:
- Deliver presentations in schools and to public groups; attend community events and neighbourhood meetings for the purpose of education and program profile; public outreach through SPES events and facilities
- Respond to daily phone calls on Coyote Info Hotline and to emergencies on weekends/day off
- Evaluate coyote sighting patterns and, as necessary, inform schools, daycares and other organizations in relevant areas
- Involve residents in areas where coyotes are causing concern; monitor and respond with targeted educational campaign in areas of deliberate feeding
- Create and distribute information brochures, posters and signs
- Work with Conservation Programs Manager on various Urban Wildlife projects, planning, etc.
- Monitor budget and prepare reports as required for SPES Board, staff, and funders
- Maintain databases and other administrative tasks
- Liaise with governmental organizations, community groups, and the media concerning public education of coyote issues
Qualifications:
- Working knowledge and appreciation of environmental issues, and the values and mission of the Stanley Park Ecology Society
- Working knowledge of relevant urban wildlife organizations and issues
- Ability to evaluate and reassess current urban wildlife situation(s), in particular relating to coyotes
- Ability to design and deliver programs that capture the attention and imagination of school children and adults
- Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills with a collaborative work style
- Ability to successfully communicate with diverse government and community groups
- Ability to work effectively in dealing with conflicts presented by the public
- Ability to manage time: organize and manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines and creatively solve problems
- Excellent writing skills
- Self-directed, self-motivated, self-reliant and committed to excellence
Required Training and Experience:
- Minimum Diploma or Degree in a related field, and 1 year of transferable experience in a position of similar coordination responsibilities, OR minimum 2 year experience in a position of similar project coordination responsibilities and activities that involved wildlife issues
- Minimum one-year experience with public speaking and presentations to children and adults
- Computer skills: Word, Excel; Design, Web site, GIS skills are an asset
- A Class 5 Driver’s License is a requirement and access to a vehicle an asset
- Position requires a Criminal Records check
- Level 1 First Aid is an asset
Position: Full time; 5 days / 35 - 37.5 hours per week (14.53 – 16.02 / hr)
Start Date: September 2, 2008 (Flexible)
Location: Stanley Park, Vancouver, BC
