Our Purpose:

The Stanley Park Ecology Society promotes awareness of and respect for the natural world by playing a leadership role in the stewardship of Stanley Park through collaborative initiatives in education, research and conservation.

The Stanley Park Ecology Society is located in the heart of Vancouver's world-famous Stanley Park. With offices in the Dining Pavilion and our Nature House on Lost Lagoon Lake, our location could not be more scenic. Members, Volunteers, and the public can enjoy our programs, including Sunday Discovery Walks, educational workshops and seasonal events. Without the generous support of our sponsors, Volunteers and board members, the Society would be unable to offer such programs.

Through our Public Programs such as EcoWalks, and Eco Rangers, park visitors from Vancouver and beyond expand their environmental awareness and learn how to shrink their environmental footprint.

Our School Programs take environmental education to the classroom and bring school children to Stanley Park, where they learn hands-on about nature and how their actions impact the world around them.  Co-Existing With Coyotes teaches communities how to prevent conflicts between humans and wildlife.

Conservation Programs include the Stewardship Program Ivy Busters, working to remove the invasive species English Ivy (Hedera helix) from Stanley Park; Urban Wildlife, trying to resolve the issues around "wildlife" coexisting with us; Wildlife Monitoring, of local birds such as herons and eagles; Research, learning more about the wildlife and habitats of Stanley Park; and Mapping, using GPS (Global Positioning Systems) and GIS (Geographical Information Systems) to map the Stanley Park ecosystem.

SPES has been actively promoting urban ecological conservation and stewardship since 1988. That's 7544 days of ecological stewardship and counting!
